Teen Volunteer for Children's Department


Computer Monitor Description:
Assists patrons with computer issues, including: scanning, printing, etc. Must sign in all patrons to the six (6) available computers and limit time to one (1) hour. Computer stations must be sanitized after each use. While not supervising the computers, this position will greet and warmly welcome patrons into the library and assist with directional questions. Volunteers in this position must adhere and demonstrate an understanding of the library policies and privacy laws. Patrons are always the number one priority.
Requires a warm, outgoing personality, ability to anticipate and react to needs of patrons and staff, and a desire to make people comfortable in the library. Prior customer service or library experience is preferred. The position requires computer, internet, and Microsoft Office knowledge and strong interpersonal skills. The best volunteer will be friendly, courteous, tactful, and excel at detail-oriented tasks. Ability to adapt to a constantly changing environment is a must. Must be courteous to patrons and staff while limiting social interactions


Shelver Description:
This position must be able to accurately shelve all library materials in call number and/or alphabetical order. Must be able to sanitize all items returned to the library using provided supplies. This position is essential to maintaining the library and its collections. This position requires attention to detail and a love of order and organization. Must be able to maneuver heavy carts, lift light to medium weight, and be able to stand/walk for long periods of time. Ability to adapt to a constantly changing environment is a must. Knowledge of the Dewey Decimal System is preferred. Must be courteous to patrons and staff while limiting social interactions. All applicants must be able to pass a shelving test.

Children's Department Assistant Description (Teen & Adult):
These volunteers assist the Children’s Librarian in the efficient running of the Bella Vista Public Library – Children’s and Teens department. Volunteers help the staff deliver outstanding customer service to our patrons. The following list is an example of some of the duties that volunteers will perform.  Other duties may be assigned as needed:
·         Cleaning and Shelving books
·         Pulling requested books for storytimes
·         Assisting with Children's programming, such as Storytime, Summer Reading Events, etc.
·         Research projects as assigned
·         Create and cut out art projects
·         Create displays
·         Copying materials
·         Provide assistance before and during the program with sign-in and crowd control
·         Assist with clean-up after the conclusion of programs.
